Question
hi
I have Kraftmaid Maple cabinets in kitchen done in Hazlenut Glaze that are 3 years old. I am having 4 more cabinets added to my kitchen in the same finish. Kraftmaid assures me a color match. I know my cabinets must have changed color since installation, so my question is if Kraftmaid matches my current color of cabinets, wont the new ones lighten up in a year or so and eventually be a different color? I always thought Maple darkened over time, but Kraftmaid tells me that Maple lightens .

Answer
Hi Gina
Nice to hear from you.
Its my experience that maple darkens with age.
Quite rapidly compared to other wood.
But the only maple I'm familiar with is Canadian maple as I live in Canada...can't see there would be any difference though if you are from the USA.
Hope this helps
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
