Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Maple Veneer

Question
I want to build a counter top for my basement cabinets (12 feet long).  My wife and I are trying to decide on weather to use a maple veneer (available in 8-ft lengths) or solid boards.

We cannot decide which would have the best looking seams.  The veneer seam would be in the middle of the counter top.  If I use three 7.5" boards, I would have two seams running the length of the top.

I have limited experience with either situation.  Would you suggest one over the other?

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Todd,

Just a follow up to that countertop question you asked. I just received the latest issue of Fine Homebuilding yesterday, just hours after I answered your question. There is a very nice article about making laminate countertops in this issue. It's the November, 2004 issue and the article is on page 58.

This would be most helpful to you, so I highly recommend that you check it out.
