Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Musty smell in underbed drawers

Question
How can I eradicate the musty smell in the drawers under my bed. I have taken everything out and washed it all. At the moment they are empty but still smell. This problem has only started in the last year. I believe it may be because I use the laptop in the Bedroom and spend more time in there. My windows are opened every day for at least 4 hours usually more. Any suggestions welcome

Answer
Hi Angela
Nice to hear from you.
Gosh this is odd.
One would think that fresh air would stop the smell not cause it, but I think you may have the answer if its been hot and humid or rainy there lately.
Also do you have carpet in your room that goes under the bed?
It could be holding the humidity.
The smell will not leave till the problems solved.
Warm dry air will help...furnace or heat source of some kind perhaps.
A wash of all the drawers with a household bleach solution will help too.
I would take the drawers right out to do this, and do it in the sunshine if you can. Leave them there a few hours.
While the drawers are out see what it smells like under there.
I am certain you are correct.
Good Luck and great question

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
