Question
My piano had mold inside of it and I have clean it out, but it still smells stongly of an old, musky smell.  This smell has been giving me headaches and I do not want to get rid of my lovely piano.  Is there a way I can get rid of the smell?

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Andrea
Nice to hear from you.
Usually I recommend a wash with a mild bleach and dish soap solution to get rid of this smell, but I recommend all the inside surfaces be washed.
Unfortunately with a piano this will not be possible but you can certainly give it a try on the back where there is a lot of unfinished wood that will have absorbed the smell.
Also any unfinished areas inside the piano you can access.
The smell should not have absorbed into the exterior finished wood, but I would wash with one of those citrus based cleaners.
Hope this helps
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
