Question
Hi and thanks for taking my question.  I am starting a small business and am trying to get my logo onto a plywood reader board.  Keyword here is starting.  So trying to get away as inexpensive as possible.  I am trying to figure out how to adhere a laminated logo to a plywood board (without using screws)the board is covered with paint primer.  Also after it is mounted I need to seal the entire board.  Any suggestions??

Answer
Hi Tiffany,

Sounds like you're in need of a good adhesive, one that will survive a variety of conditions. My best advice for an all around construction adhesive is Liquid Nails. It comes in a tube, like caulk, and grabs fairly quickly. I've used it for everything from gluing ceramic tile to installing paneling. Another good product is PL-400, which is an all around adhesive, which glues just about anything together.

A tube of these two products probably isn't more than $3 or  $4, but that's assuming you have a caulking gun, as both come in tubes. You might ask to see if they are sold in a different way, perhaps a small tub or something similar to that. They set up fast, and really hold, so plan what you're doing a head of time, or you may run into problems like gluing something crooked or in the wrong place.

As far as sealing the board, you can't go wrong with a good exterior varnish. Products like these hold up well outside, and dry quickly. You can buy a small can of varnish for probably under $5, so the cost (once again) isn't going to sink you. If you see a product called a Spar Varnish, that means it's particularly tough for wet conditions. I've used McCloskey's Spar Varnish for years with excellent results, but Minwax is a good brand too.

OK, good luck, I hope this helps. Please feel free to write back if you have any further questions after reading this. And if this answer was helpful... please take a minute and rate my service. Thanks!
