Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Polyurethane discolored paint

Question
I took my old dresser and night stand; and after sanding it, gave it a fresh coat of white milk paint.  It looked gorgeous!  Then my husband polyurethaned the set.  He put the first coat on very lightly, but then informed me that he put the second coat on a bit thicker.  The set still looked great in the indoor lighting.  But the next morning, when the natural light poured through the window, you could see streaks of light yellow where the polyurethane had been applied too thick.  How can I correct this problem?

Answer
Hi Alyssa
Sorry about this happening, but the pieces will have to be stripped down.
There is no other way.
And putting poly over paint was a bad move.
It always goes yellow after a short time unless its a waterbased type of poly and even then I would not apply it over paint.

Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
