Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Re: Teak coffee table

Question
I would like to refinish ( if necessary ) my teak coffee
table.  My main concerns are the rings that were made by
a drinking glass when my children didn't use a coaster.
Can I sand the table top, then use a polyurethine finish?
Appreciate your help.  I have done alot of refinishing but
never on teak wood.

Answer
Hi Mary
Nice to hear from you
If the rings have penetrated the finish into the wood you have no alternative but a light sanding.
And certainly a poly product will give great protection with children around..I know I have several around.
Good Luck

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
