Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Refinishing a 1950's Henredon sideboard

Question
I just acquired a beautiful 1950-ish sideboard from Henredon, with gorgeous flame mahogany and inlays throughout.  It has a pretty cloudy finish on the top and several scratch marks, so I'm assuming it's simply wax build-up overtime.  I've refinished some lesser quality pieces in the past using Howard's products (restore-a-finish and feed-n-wax) and fine steel wool.  Would you recommend this same approach for high-end furniture?  The finish has some kind of lacquer/high shine on it and I'm wondering if the steel wool will dull it?

Answer
Hi Jennifer
Nice to hear from you.
Yes this approach will be best. See if it removes this heavy buildup of wax.
The superfine steel wool should not scratch, but as with any method, do a test area in an inconspicuous place.
Sounds like a lovely piece.

Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
