Question
I really appreciated your response on 6/15/07 to jessica re: refinishing old woodwork. It sounds doable! Is this a "permanent" fix or will I need to redo this every year or so? Also, I am messy. Any tips for protecting the carpets etc. Thanks. Laure

Answer
Hi Laure
I love this question.
OK Miss Messy..you sound like my daughter.
Painters tape is great for protecting painted walls.
The carpets could be protected with a strip of plastic firmly tucked into the area where carpet meets baseboard.
And don't do this after you spill something on the carpet like my daughter LOL.
And actually proper prep work takes time, but it saves hours in the long run
And yes this is a permanent fix. No need to do it every year.
Good Luck and thanks for making my day.

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
