Question
I have some old barn wood that I would like to build into a table.  The wood is true 1x12 and is probally at least 100 years old.  The wood is very dry and is not painted or stained.  Do you have any suggestions as to how to finish this wood?  Should I use a linseed oil?

Answer
Hi Jason
Nice to hear from you.
Yes the wood will be dry if its that old, but Personally I would not use linseed oil on your table.
Personally I would use Minwax fast drying oil based poly in a low luster.
But heres an article that I think you should read. Very interesting. Perhaps you might want to try this.

Hope this helps.
Good Luck and a good question

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
