Question
My Mother has given me her kitchen table and chair set from Carline Home that I remember them delivering when I was about 10 years old...I am now 50. It is a rectangle table with 6 ladder back chairs and spindle legs on both. After looking for a new kitchen set, I envisioned redoing this lovely set,(to give it a french country look) it means so much to me anyway. I would not need to to do the table top, as I believe it has some sort of laminate on it and it is in good condition. However I wanted to pain the table legs and chair legs and backs  a satin black and redo the seats in the same color as they are now...I was told that I should just sand thoroughly and use a satin black paint like home accents rustoleum, for the satin black part, and I would need to-strip the seats and re stain and seal...can you please tell me if this sounds right..I have refinished a antique buffet and dresser in the past and it turned out beautiful, so I have had a little experience in all of this. Thank you

Answer
Hi Laurie
Nice to hear from you.
How nice to have a kitchen set you remember from childhood.
I think you were told correctly here Laurie.
This is what I would do in this case.
And a little experience is a whole lot better than none LOL..just keep doing great projects like this and soon you'll be a pro.
Good Luck and great question
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
