Question
Hi.  I just got a nice old sewing machine with a cabinet.  The hinges have torn holes in the wood, and need to be re-screwed in, but all of the wood is torn up!  How can I fix this?

Thanks so much!!

Autumn

Answer
Hi Autumn
Nice to hear from you.
Not sure where the wood is broken here but I'm thinking you mean the screw holes.
Easy to fix this.
I use wooden matches dipped in glue and pushed firmly into the screw holes.
After they are well dried, just snip the matches off level with a pair of scissors or I use wire cutters
Then put the hindge back on.
Hope this helps
Kind Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
