Question
Hi Eileen!  I was curious to know if I could just "rough up" parts of my cabinets (they are pickled) restain or do something to make them somehow look rustic?  They look pink to me..(not to others)..but, I think that if I can put some sort of other color in with it, somehow, it will make them look better!

I will include a picture of my kitchen if it will help!

Thanks in advance!!!

Dana

Answer
Hi Dana
Nice to hear from you.
A picture did not come but thats OK.
Dana you and I must have the same type of eyes LOL.
I too always see pink in these pickled cupboards.
Maybe were just colored blind, but you don't like the look either.
Why not try a small test.
How about an area on the back of a door.
A good scrub of TSP and Steel wool.
Be real agressive.
Then rub on the stain color you like with a rag.
Who knows, you may have solved the pink cupboard dilemma.
And it just might be enough of a change to suit.
I'd Like to know the outcome of the test.
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
