Question
We have a light oak dinning table and the color has changed underneath where we had a table runner.  It appears to have a gray tint to it.  How can we get rid of this so it blends with the rest of the table.

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Halina
Nice to hear from you. Here are my thoughts
The only way short of refinishing would be to leave the table exposed to some sunshine.
I hope over time the discolored area may disappear.
Then I am wondering if the table has been previously heavily waxed.
If it has perhaps removing the wax will correct the problem. Remove wax with mineral spirits or varsol and clean rags.
Hope this helps

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
