Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Table Finish

Question
Hi. I have a cherry dining room table; looks like a damp plastic newspaper bag was laid on the table while we were gone and when we lifted it, there was are "spots" on the table - darker and similar to the wrinkles in the bag. My husband says it looks like water may have been trapped under the top coat (finished with Enviro-Garde). Does this sound possible and any suggestions on what we can do? YOUR HELP MUCH APPRECIATED. THANKS

Answer
Hi Lisa
Nice to hear from you.
Yes its possible water could have penetrated an area of the table.
But this took a bit of time to happen.
First the finish was compromised, then the water got in.
Only help in my opinion is a full strip and refinish of the table top.
Good Luck
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
