Question
Hi,
My Husband and I just bought and old home (build 1912)which needed some rehab.  We have oak woodwork every where and most was painted or stained white.  We are currently stripping a window sill and came across water damage-discoloration and rings where there was flower pots. Is there any way to get it out or make it less noticeable? We don't want to replace it we just want to make it look the best we can, any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Carly
Nice to hear from you.
You can try wood bleach first.
Its available at any hardware store.
Comes in 2 small bottles you mix at time of use.
Read and follow all instructions.
If that fails, an oxalic acid solution will certainly remove the marks.
Good Luck and great question
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
