Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Water stain

Question
Hi Eileen, We have a beautiful gloss ELMWOOD dining table that has what appear to be either water stains ( faint white colour ) or heat or condensation. The table had a vinyl cover and place mats on the top before a hot serving dish was placed on it. We are presuming that the dish has caused moisture transfer through the items underneath.
Elmwood has a thin surface so sanding is not an option !
Any advice much appreciated !

Answer
Hi David
Nice to hear from you.
How right you are..sanding should not be considered in this case.
First try some home methods.
Mayonnaise rubbed in with a rag, or vegetable oil rubbed in with a rag.
Next try some cigarette ash mixed with a drop or two of veggie oil. Apparently the ash acts as a very slight abrasive.
If any of the methods work on this heat blush, great.
If they fail, you will have to get some of this.

Hope this helps

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
