Question
QUESTION: I need to know if the following products are safe:  Liquid Gold, Old English, Endust.  If not, what is the very best product on the market?  What is the most common product on the market that would be next best?  Thanks!!!

ANSWER: Hi Julie
Nice to hear from you.
The very best thing of course is paste wax.
I'll name Bri-wax as one kind.
Endust is fine..very fine actually.
Any other products made for furniture are fine as long as they do not contain silicone. So read your labels.
Silicone is the culprit it seems as it could ruin a fine old finish.
Personally I never liked waxing furniture, so I use nothing on mine...just a very slightly damp cloth to pick up the dust.
But having said that, in my younger days I certainly did the furniture waxing thing. Used a lot of lemon oil and pledge.
Being lazy has its advantages too as I am never faced with removing wax that was applied too liberally and too often LOL.
I note however that you used the words "cleaning cherry kitchen cabinets" in your heading.
Personally I would not use waxes of any kind on the kitchen cabinetry as I feel you are setting yourself up for lots of work when the wax goes gummy as it will in any kitchen. Just my own thoughts there Julie.
Hope this helps
Great question
Regards
Eileen

QUESTION: What about Liquid Gold, & Old English?  Those are the 2 products that I already have.

Answer
Hi Again Julie
As I said, look at the ingredient list.
If either contain silicone it is recommended they not be used on old wood furniture.
But you know, It could be the silicone has been removed.
Wish you would check and let me know as I have neither in my house.
As I said I don't like waxing furniture LOL
Get back to me

Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
