Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/How can I determine the type of wood I have

Question
I have a bedroom set, manufacturered by Hibriten, which has been in my family since the 1930's or so, a very french provincial look painted in bone color (might have been white and just aged over the years) with gold trim.  I took the paint off to find a beautiful wood below, but I have no idea how to figure out what type of wood, how can I determine this?

Answer
Hi Mandy
Nice to hear from you.
Sorry to say but this type of wood can fool you.
Usually factory painted pieces like this can be made of various types wood.
And they cannot be sucessfully stripped if you were thinking along those lines.
The only way anyone can tell you the wood type is to physically see it.
Hope this helps
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
