Question
We just bought a cherry table that has a few slight scratches in the top finish, looks like someone dragged something porous across it,(not into the wood), how can we get rid of these? Thanks for any advice.

Answer
Hi Faith
Nice to hear from you.
There are many different ways and methods of correcting this.
I always like the easiest.
There are many products which make this easy.
Here is one example
http://www.restorzit.com/WoodRestorer.aspx
But very often when these scratches are very fine all thats needed is a wax and a polish.
I would go the wax route first.
If that fails try the restorzit. But always when using these products, try a test area in a place not too noticable to see how it reacts with your particular finish.
Good Luck and great question

Eileen

Hope this helps

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
