Question
I have 2 older dressers that were once in a college dormitory.  The college remodeled and I bought them really cheap.  They seem to be real wood-not the particle wood variety-and are your typical light ood color.  I would like to paint them black, maybe a roughed up not completely perfect black.  Maybe Americana style is what you call it.  I was wondering the best route to take to do this?

Answer
Hi Rachel
Nice to hear from you.
First sand the pieces.
Then paint black. Probably two coats.
Then rough up with sandpaper on areas that normally get wear like corners etc.
Personally I would skip this step as I think they will look quite stunning painted black.
Good luck and good question
Kindeat Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
