Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/fix wobbly bed frame

Question
Hi Eileen,

My daughter has a rather old (but not quite antique) poster bed that she received from her aunt.  it has metal rails and wooden head/foot boards.  The rails hook into a very thin slit in the frame.  The problem is that the bed is very wobbly rocking forward and back.  laterally it is very sound.  My daugther loves the bed but hates the rocking.  is there anything I can do?

thanks.
Janet

Answer
Hi Janet
Nice to hear from you.
My guest bed does exactly that LOL..its very annoying.
What I did was cut thin pieces of wood about 3inches x 3inches x 1/8 inch thick and tapped them from the underside of the rail and between the spot where the rail meets the headboard.
You will be forcing the thin wood so it may take a good tap.
This stopped the movement.
Nothing else that I know of to fix this.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
