Question
I have black lacquer bedroom furniture, and have found two end tables (second-hand) whose shape and size I like.  They are wood, and finished in white lacquer. Can I overspray them with black lacquer? Would this work? Would I sand them lightly before spraying with the black? Or could I paint them black and then apply a high gloss polyurethane?  Any help much appreciated,

Answer
Hi Donna
Nice to hear from you.
Personally I would paint the white tables with black high gloss or semi gloss water based paint. (which ever is closest to the shine on your black pieces.
Certainly you can use black laquer if you can get it.
And sand lightly before either method.
No need for any poly over either method.
Hope this helps
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
