Question
We have an old solid oak headboard we recently found in the barn. It has been there for many years and is warped. Any way to fix it? Thanks.

Answer
Hi John
Nice to hear from you.
If this headboard is solid oak its certainly worth trying to save.
First try the easy way (which may not work LOL)
You need a hot sunny day too so if you are in the middle of winter, leave the bed in the barn for now.
OK..easy way first.
Simply wet a grassy area on the lawn in full sun and lay the piece high side up for several hours. An easy way to remember which side is this..pretend the warp is a cup you are emptying..understand?
This may not work but plan B should.
Take the headboard completely apart..that is remove the posts and place the warped boards as directed above.
John I have often left a piece of wood too long in the sun and the darn thing will warp the other way, but don't panic, simply turn over and start again.
Sounds crazy I know but it works
Good Luck

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
