Question
I have a circ 1900 South African Yellowood table which i was oiling with 2 parts mineral turpentine to 1 part raw linseed. It now has a sticky finish which I feel I should sand off.  What can i use to oil it with that wont accumulate?

Answer
Hi Denise
Nice to hear from you.
I would use tung oil or a Danish oil.
Neither will go sticky.
As far as accumulating goes, any product will if it gets too many coats.
Once a year should be enough for the oils I mention assuming they are used indoors.
Good Luck
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
