Question
Hi i recently got an old dresser from a yard sale.but when i say old i mean like maybe it was built in the late 80's early 90's it's wood but it's not high quaily wood and i need to know where do i start with painting it? it looks like it only has 1 coat of paint on it.Do i sand the paint off? or get paint remover? and the front part of the drawers just seem to be made out of a wood bar...Can i use a spray gun to paint it? or will it be best for me to hand paint it..Im going for the retro look of the colors expresso or cappuccino look... I really want this paint job to come out smooth  so please Help!!!!

Answer
Hi Tammy
I love this question...its easy LOL.
Lightly sand, then two coats of your paint color of choice.
Nothing could be easier.
And if you want a great paint job, avoid spraying.
The key is the best brush you can buy that is correct for the particular paint you buy...ask at the store.
And a good quality paint of course.
Good Luck and great question
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
