Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/painting fiberboard

Question
I saw a question that sounded like what I need to know as well but I geuss I am still unsure. I bought some brand new storage unit shelves made out of fiberboard with the smooth plastic like material on top to make it apear as it is real wood. but it did not come in any color I liked so I would like to paint it using the same paint I used on the walls but I fear the paint will not stick. In your responce for the other question you said to use a primer. should I use the primer you would use on the wall or is there another sort? also should I try sanding it first to get a textured surface so the paint has something to stick to or would that ruin it?

Answer
Hi Emmie
Nice to hear from you.
Get a 220 grit sandpaper and lightly sand this unit.
Then a coat of the same primer you use on the walls is fine.
Then the same paint you use on the walls is fine again.
This will save some money as well...which I love.
And this will look great too.

Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
