Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/painting old cabinets

Question
Hi Eileen - I was wondering if you can help me. My father decided to take it upon himself to paint his old cabinets. He used a water base eggshell finish light almond color. He did not paint the groove in the face of the cabinet, which is a glazed brown ( this looks fine ) They are basement kitchen cabinets, so they do not have to be perfect, but my concern is that he left the doors on while painting them, went over all the hardware, and the cabinets now have a dull finish. What is the best way to correct this? I probably will get new hardware and knobs, but the finish - maybe you could help!

Answer
Hi Roseanne
Nice to hear from you.
This is not a biggy LOL.
Get a can of water based poly.

One coat applied directly over the eggshell paint.
You have the option of gloss or semi gloss or satin.
Good Luck and great question.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
