Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/painting a wood table

QuestionI have just remodeled my kitchen and dining room and have a nice large
wooden table that no longer looks good in the room. My solution is to paint
the table black to go with the decor. I am not sure what kind of wood the
existing table is made of, but it is finished in a medium dark stain. I have
considered wiping the entire surface with a surface prep and then spraying a
lacquer finish. What would you recommend?

AnswerHi Dennis
Nice to hear from you.
OK..sounds like a great idea to do the table black and it makes no difference the kind of wood its made from.
And as you are aware, surface prep when doing a job like this is vital for a good result so your on the right track there.
My question back to you would be..Do you have the capabilities and equipment at home to do the laquer spraying yourself or are you sending it out?
If you are sending it out I agree 100% that is the correct route.
If you have never done a job like this I would not recommend your table as your first project.
Laquer is vile stuff and great care must be taken when using it, and an experienced eye and hand to spray.
But perhaps I am not telling you anything you don't already know LOL
But I would recommend what you suggest is great.
Good Luck and thanks for a great question
