Question
The blond finish is totally worn off in spots on a child's oak table & chairs.  Can it be touched up some way, or must I totally strip & restain?    I want to save the decals on both the table & chairs.

Answer
Hi Laverna
Nice to hear from you.
Of course if you strip, you will lose the decals.
So I would just make sure the pieces were free of dirt and grease and apply a coat or two of the existing finish...I'll bet you don't know what it is..neither do I LOL.
So..what to do?....I think I would get a small spray can of clear laquer from the hardware.
Spray a little test area. On a chair leg is good. Let it dry to see the results.
If its good, continue.
Good Luck and great question.

Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
