Question
I have a 45 year old LANE dining table that i have already sanded down. The table is made of two woods, oak and walnut, I think...
What should I use to stain it so both woods end up the same color?
I refinished a Lane coffee table and used Watco danish oil. While I like that finish the two different woods were not the same color.

Answer
Hi Wendy
Nice to hear from you.
Its nearly impossible to get walnut and oak to look the same.
The only way remotely possible is to have the table sprayed with colored lacquer.
This will pretty much obliterate the wood grain though.
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
