Question
hello, I am refinishing an old Bermudian Cedar window frame.  I am planning on stripping the paint and sanding it down to the natural wood, but what product do I put on it to bring out the natural color and can I varithan it after to give it a bit of a shine?

Answer
Hi Anne
Nice to hear from you.
Anne you can stain the stripped wood prior to the poly.
Cedar really absorbs stain deeply, so just make sure you test an area on the back to get the right color.
I use Minwax stains, and they have great color charts to give you an idea of how the stain looks.
Personally I would use a natural color stain (no color) to enhance the wood.
Good Luck and great question.

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
