Question
I recently purchased a kitchen table and 6 rush style chairs at an antique shop.  The table top was covered with white splotchy type marks.  I was assured that if I tried "restor A Finish" that it would remove the marks.  I used this product and it definetly looks better but there are still streaks and white marks.  Question 1 - What should I use to remove these marks? Question 2 - It says on the back of the bottle that I cannot seal with a polyurethane after using this product because the table will not dry properly. What do you recommend? Also, While I was using this product I was trying to remove a water mark.  While I was rubbing, the finish rubbed right off in that one spot. The spot looks like it is the original wood.  What should I do about that spot? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Michelle
Nice to hear from you.
Sounds to me like this table top needs a refinish.
If the methods you used failed that is the only choice.
Not a hard undertaking with guidance which I am happy to give if requested. Will need a picture of table top.
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
