Question
Hi Eileen, My dining room table is not antique but I had set a can od deorderizer on it and it took the finish off in one spot. It is an oak table and I use old english on it and have been using a lemon oil on it and I can not get the shine back to it. Is there any thing I can do to get some shine back to it?

Answer
Hi Cindy
Nice to hear from you.
Short of refinishing the entire table top Cindy, the only other thing you could try is the following.
Clean the top well using mineral spirits and a rag. This will remove all the products you have applied.
Next give the top a coat of high gloss tung oil applied with a rag.
Now the only thing that worries me is the spot where the can took the finish off. It could well be this will not do much with that, but give it a try before we think of refinishing.
Good Luck and let me know
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
