Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/staining cabinets

Question
We have just built new oak cabinets and we are planning to stain them a golden pecan color to retain basically the natural color of the wood.  We have dark wood floors and wondered if there is some type of glaze or other technique to apply a dark coat over the stain to give the wood an older look.
Thank you,
Charla

Answer
Hi Charla
Nice to hear from you.
OK..do I understand...you want to retain the natural color of the wood but put a dark glaze over it so the wood looks older.
Wow..pretty much impossible IMHO..LOL
I just cannot see how you can get both.
Once you apply something darker over the natural color you will have darker wood.
Why not just try to make the wood look older and darker which is the look you want to end up with.
Sorry Charla but this is just not registering with me.
Have you actually seen this look before?
Get back to me.
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
