Question
Hello, about 6 months ago I tried to restain an old pine wood kitchen table and benches.  I sanded it well, but the stain I used was very dark-a mahogany I belive.  I now need to restain it back to it's original pine color to match a hutch I've been given.  What do I need to do first?  How should i get the dark stain off?
Thank you
Renee

Answer
Hi Renee
Nice to hear from you.
Sorry but the answer to this is wish you had never stained pine dark in the first place.
This will not come off to restain lighter.
Pine is softwood and absorbes stain deeply.
Sorry but I've been there and tried it.
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
