Question
Two. How do you effectively strip a catalyize varnish finish? And...How do you repair a scratch or gouge in a resin (epoxy) tabletop?

Answer
Hi Mike
Nice to hear from you.
Standard paint and varnish remover will effectively remove varnish.
Mike the only way to repair this resin is by filling the gouge with more resin.
I feel any other repair would stick out like a sore thumb on this finish.
The existing resin finish will have yellowed no doubt if its been on a while, but the repair will eventually yellow too.
Hope this helps
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
