Question
can furniture with veneer be painted? this piece is from 1960's probably. dark, ugly and slick, but meant to look like wood grain. it is an old credenza with a really cool look otherwise.

Answer
Hi Blanche
Nice to hear from you.
Yes of course veneer can be painted over.
Surface prep is the key to any good paint job.
A good scrub with a TSP solution using medium steel wool as a scrubber, then a coat of primer, then your paint.
No sanding necessary.
Great project and question

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
