Question
Hi Eileen. I have a couple of those window clings stuck to our nice mahogany finish dining room table insert. They've been there for 5 or so years. How do I remove it without damaging the finish? The table is 16 years old and the insert has rarely been used. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Lana
Nice to hear from you.
The only product that I can imagine that would help this is mineral spirits.
I know of nothing else.
Mineral spirits will not hurt the finish as it can also be used for cleaning dirty furniture.
I would not do this job in the house because the spirits are smelly.
Start with a test area. Not sure how much is stuck to the insert, but I would start at an edge and soak with a rag dipped in the spirits. It will not be instant as it will need to soften a bit.
Good Luck with this.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
