Subject: 2nd computer hookup

Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I have comcast for my ISP and I'd like to hookup a 2nd computer for internet use.  The computer is upstairs and the 2nd would be downstairs. What are my options?
Thanks,
Alan

ANSWER: Alan,
First question would be whether your modem provided by comcast is wireless router or not. If this is wireless a linksys wireless usb receiver could be hooked to 2nd computer for connection. If modem is not wireless a wired 4 or 8 port router couled be used to connect the first computer and the 2nd computer would have to be hard wired for connection thru a ethernet card. I hope this will help, and good luck.

QUESTION: Other than asking comcast, how can i tell if my modem is wireless or not?
and thanks for the answer

Answer
Alan,
If modem is wireless there are a couple of ways. first it will most likely have a flexible (usually black in color) antennae that would extend from back of unit. Second there may be a wave type symbol with a light that flashes on front of unit that will flash when there is a wireless connection.  Third I believe most wireless units would have at least four computer connections on the back of unit, for multiple units to be connected with cat 5 wiring. Hope this has helps, and if not please reply with name brand and model # of modem you have supplied by cable company, thanks.
