Cactus/Crown of Thorns

Question
My Crown of Thorns has always been an outside plant in the ground and then in a pot. We have moved to a new area and the other night the temp got down to 32 and the plant was not covered.  The leaves on the top part of the plant look really wilted and have probably been injured.  What do I do with the plant now?  Do I cut back the damaged area or just leave it for the time being?   Help!

Answer
Hello Kay,
I believe this is a succulent shrub, not a cactus. So they wont tolerate repottings or replacements as well as cacti do. Unlike cacti, temperatures shouldn't fall below 50 degrees. Try to place your plant in a sunny, warm location. I'm not sure whether your plant will make it, but let the plant re-adapt to the new environment. And remember, don't overwater! It's a succulent plant, which means they will tolerate drought :)

Experience

Due to the arid climate here in Nevada, I grew up planting cacti and shrubs to design my landscapes. As years went on, I learned the different ways on taking care of these amazing cacti, especially how to propagate them.

Education/Credentials
During the past few years, I have tried out many methods in growing cacti, especially when it comes to propagation. I learned the dangers of over-watering, and have researched that people often make common mistakes. That is why I joined to be part of AllExperts.
