Experience Due to the arid climate here in Nevada, I grew up planting cacti and shrubs to design my landscapes. As years went on, I learned the different ways on taking care of these amazing cacti, especially how to propagate them.
Education/Credentials During the past few years, I have tried out many methods in growing cacti, especially when it comes to propagation. I learned the dangers of over-watering, and have researched that people often make common mistakes. That is why I joined to be part of AllExperts.
Question very healthy, mutiplying plant throughout summer. When cold weather stricks, plant turns brownish, appears dead at the ends. Location, planter, outside in Las Vegas, NV
Advice please,
Larry
Answer Hello Larry,
Aloe vera is one of the most common types of aloe here in Las Vegas. It is normal if the plant turns a little brown at the ends, but not normal for it to turn all brown. One mistake people are making is that they are watering them during the winter. Don't water at all and let nature do the rest. Since you live in Las Vegas, its okay to leave it outside at all times. We are expecting rain at temperatures below 45 degrees (F) this week, so if that's the case, cover it with a nylon or something. The weather will be too extreme for an aloe plant.
