Experience Due to the arid climate here in Nevada, I grew up planting cacti and shrubs to design my landscapes. As years went on, I learned the different ways on taking care of these amazing cacti, especially how to propagate them.
Education/Credentials During the past few years, I have tried out many methods in growing cacti, especially when it comes to propagation. I learned the dangers of over-watering, and have researched that people often make common mistakes. That is why I joined to be part of AllExperts.
The cactus in the picture, I don’t know what it is, my mother brought it back from the Virgin Islands in the 60’s. Anyway it has these flowers on top, as you can see, and I was wondering if I could grow another out of one of these flowers and how I might go about it….

Answer Hello Charlie,
I believe this is a Golden Barrel cactus. Propagation can be peerformed in two ways: Seed and Offsets. You may collect the seeds from the flowers and plant tthem using cactus soil. Another way this cactus is propagated is by offsets. This occurs when the "mom" plant grows a "baby" besides it.
