Cactus/totem pole cactus

Question
My totem pole cactus is very healthy. It is starting to get many arms growing out of it. One of the lower arms broke off (think it may have been from the dog stepping on it). Can I replant that arm somewhere else and it will grow ok? Does it need to be facing the same way it was when it was attached? The arm is about 8-9 inches long. How far in would I need to put it in the ground if I can replant it? Thanks!

Answer
Hello Kelie,
You may propagate the broken arm by cutting. Here is my website that shows you how to do root cuttings. You will need to place only the tip (or atleast one inch if needed) of the arm into the soil.

Due to the arid climate here in Nevada, I grew up planting cacti and shrubs to design my landscapes. As years went on, I learned the different ways on taking care of these amazing cacti, especially how to propagate them.

Education/Credentials
During the past few years, I have tried out many methods in growing cacti, especially when it comes to propagation. I learned the dangers of over-watering, and have researched that people often make common mistakes. That is why I joined to be part of AllExperts.
