Question

My cactus
My cactus has sprouted at the top is this a baby growing? What do i do with it? Please help me and my Prickaly friend in colwyn bay north wales.

Answer
Dear Sarah,

Are you talking about he smaller plant?  it has sprouted, as it should as it knows it' active period of growth has started.  What you need to do is get it some sun.  it looks like it is etiolating, that is, stretching and narrowing as it seeks sun.  That makes the sprout weaker and if you leave it, it will be spindly and deformed.  Move it toward a south facing window if you can't put it outside.  Don't do it all at once as it will burn.  If you can, put it outside and also gradually get it used to full sun.  if you haven't transplanted in 2 or more years you need to do that.

If you need help, let me know.

Congradulations!

Expertise

I can answer questions regarding the care and propagation of cactus and succulents and would actually group these together as folks often mistake one for the other and often their care is quite different. I also have a cold hardy cactus and succulent garden that has been quite successful. The subject in regard to classification of type is enormous and I wouldn't be able to answer all questions by any means. It is really IMPORTANT TO INCLUDE A PHOTO if at all possible and LET ME KNOW WHERE YOU ARE FROM, especially in terms of climate.
