Question
I have a cactus about 6" tall that narrows in like a neck about halfway up the plant and then has a bulbous "head". The cactus is having a hard time holding up its "head".

Can I cut off the head and replant it? Will the "body" heal itself and keep growing?

It was in this shape when someone gave it to me, but the head grew bigger!

Susan

Answer
Dear Susan,

Generally that is caused by a lack of light (the thin part). Yes, you can cut it and replant it and the main plant will survive. Let the cut part "heal" for a couple of weeks before planting. It will take a month or 2 to root, so be patient.

Hope this helps,

Sincerely,

Greg
