Question
My two year old Madagascar Palm is about 3 feet tall and I keep it inside year round in front of a north window.  It seems to be thriving but I am concerned about watering.  I give it 8 oz of tap water on the 1st and the 15th of each month.  How can I tell how much water it needs and when?

Answer
Dear Marilyn,

A good rule of thumb is water only when the soil is dry. They will take more water when they are actively growing (when in leaf), but do not over water. Cut back watering when it drops its leaves. If you have had it for 2 years, then you must be doing good so far as they will rot easily if over watered. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
