Cactus/Organ Pipe Takeover

Question
I have an organ pipe cactus (living in the Phoenix, AZ area)taking over my front yard. How can I trim it and still keep it alive? (it's very large-at least 10' diameter and at least 12' tall). Are there people who buy the cut-offs? Do I need to seal the "stumps" with some sort of protective solution? Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
Ryan,

I am sorry for the delay in answering you, have had some computer issues that are now resolved.

How can I trim it and still keep it alive? You can use a hack saw. If possible, mark the south side with a marker before you cut any arms off. Be very careful as a large arm can weight hundreds of pounds.

Are there people who buy the cut-offs? Yes, but you won't get too much for an unrooted cutting.

Do I need to seal the "stumps" with some sort of protective solution? You can dust it with sulfur, but you do not need to.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
