Cactus/Pruning Paddle Cactus

Question
Hello,
What is a best time (if any) to prune paddle cactus.  Maybe some guide lines for a right way to do it.

Thanks in advance
Rick

Answer
Rick,

Most prickly pear cactus are pretty hardy, so pruning can be done at any time. However, try to avoid it if the weather is damp/wet. The best way to prune it is to simply break off the pads at their joints. Do not prune too severely, if the bottom parts of the plant are "woody", they won't sprout new branches. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
