Cactus/Rotten Aloe Vera?

Question
We have an Aloe Vera plant that we keep inside and leave outside during the summer. I broke a stem off to treat a burn and the gel is a yellow-green color and has a VERY unpleasant odor. Is there anything we can do to treat this problem? It is almost time to put it outside, but I wasn't sure about it if it needs extra TLC.
Thanks,
Andrea

Answer
Andrea,

I'm not sure why it would have that smell or appearance, unless it is a very old leaf or if it is not an Aloe vera. Do you have a picture you can send? If so, my email is gregandkat@msn.com.

If I can verify the identity of the plant, I can give you a better answer. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Greg
